Back to Reading
So, I haven't read in awhile, but I just got back to reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth. The last time I read it was in May or June, and I never finished it, and picking up the book again was kind of confusing and overwhelming. They throw a lot of information at you at once and there's like 9 different problems that the main character, Tris, is trying to deal with, not to mention the problems that other characters are having. It's hard for me to keep up with all of Tris' issues, and now they're adding the problems of Tobias, her boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend, or "just friend" or whatever he is now. (Problem #1 in Tris' life; Relationship status: It's complicated) SPOILER ALERT Now, Tris's brother, who previously tried to kill her, wants to "mend their relationship" and she's actually considering it... WHAT?? I get that he's your brother and you're family and he's the only family member you have left, but seriously? HE TRIED TO MURDER YOU!! (Problem #2; Relationship status: It's still complicated) And now I have to deal with Tobias over here crying because he isn't really Divergent, and now Tris has to take care of him, creating, yet another, problem for her failing love life. (Problem #3; Relationship status: I don't know right now... Does taking care of your on-again-off-again boyfriend's genetic problems count as "In a relationship"?) Not to mention that everything she thought that she knew about her dead mother's life was a lie. And I understand that she was trying to "protect her" but seriously? Tris grew up in the Abnegation faction, and they honor selflessness, which means nobody talks about themselves or their lives at the dinner table because that would be "selfish". I think the only things that she knew about her mom was that her name was Natalie, and she is her mother. But after Tris transfers to Dauntless, where they honor bravery, her mother lies to her and tells her that she was born in Dauntless and transfered to Abnegation when she was 16. So that is all Tris knows about her mom and it turns out that what she was able to imagine about her mother's life from those bits and pieces was all wrong and she doesn't know anything about who her mom really was. (Problem #4; Relationship status: It's over. She lied to me and now it's over.) I can't say the story wasn't good, but I can't say it was amazing either. Honestly, Veronica, next time I recommend figuring out our issues one at a time.

Which book in the series is your favorite? Mine was Insurgent for sure!
ReplyDeleteWhat would you rate Allegiant?
ReplyDeleteI liked the movie, Divergent and I really want to read the series.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm indifferent about it. I just don't really like Allegiant. But, I never feel like the last book in any series is the best. Not in Hunger Games, Divergent, Harry Potter... the list goes on.
